SERIALS FOR CHILDREN
TOAST-ENDERS/SOUTHSEA-ENDERS - Three series of three episodes,
each following the fortunes of 10-year-old Spike Smith, his Christian friend Jim, the school bully Spotty Dawkins and others. Series one looks at three different types of giving - sharing things with
others, giving other people your time & giving to God. Series two examines worship - contrasting the hero worship of a pop band, who can let you down, with the worship of God, who will not. Series
three looks at peer pressure, why we sometimes follow the crowd and how to break out of that cycle. The name of the series can obviously be altered depending on where it is staged! (scripts available in 50 Seasonal Sketches)
WARREN-ENDERS - Series of 12 episodes focusing on naughty-but-loveable Christian Danny Boswell, his butterfly-obsessed teacher Ivor Cane, and a pair of cool dudes called the
Trendy Brothers - all of whom go on holiday to Clacton-on-Sea. Each episode has its own teaching point (repentance, believing in Jesus etc) and associated Bible passage which can be used with other
teaching material to form the basis of a holiday club or a series of school assemblies.
THE ADVENTURES OF THE J TEAM - Ten-episode serial set in space in the year 2045. It pits the Big J and his J Team against the evil Dr Lou Cypher, who is trying to take over the world with his brainwashing machine. The Big J has to sacrifice his own life to defeat Dr Cypher, but emerges victorious when he is brought back to life. The script is based on a series of passages in Luke's gospel and is an allegory of Jesus' own life. Each episode has its own teaching point (everyone matters to Jesus, forgiveness, crucifixion etc) and associated passage from Luke, which can be used with other material for a holiday club or series of school assemblies. Performed in more than 20 schools around Hampshire since 1994.
(Published by the Bible Reading Fellowship as holiday club/school assembly resource).
'Just brilliant. A refreshing, dynamic opportunity for children to
reflect on Christianity.' CAROL GREEN, HEADTEACHER, May 1998
MEGADRIVE - Twelve-episode serial set in the world of computers.
It centres on the adventures of perpetual loser Chronic the Hedgehog and his pals the Super Marion Sisters as they battle through 12 different levels of a computer game. The Gamesmaster sends his son,
the Gameboy into the computer game to rescue them. Another allegory of the story of Jesus, based on passages in John's gospel. Again, each episode has its own teaching point (the good shepherd, the light
of the world, the feeding of the 5000 etc) and associated passage from John which can be used for a holiday club or series of school assemblies. [NB: this series could feel dated as the world of computer
games has moved on since this was first performed]
THE BUFFERS - Another 12-episode serial that revolves around trains. Bertie Buffer and his family move to Abersoch in North Wales so he can take
over its famous steam train company. They need cash to repair the railway line and are constantly thwarted by the Fat Controller, who runs the rival Llanfair-no-trains-ever-on-time-llantysllogogogoch
steam train across the peninsula. They discover that God really does answer prayer when he unexpectedly saves the line from closure. Again, each episode has its own teaching point (creation, lifestyle,
prayer) and associated Bible passage, this time taken from all over the Bible, which can be used for a holiday club or series of school assemblies.
GOD'S HEROES - Five-episode serial in which two
children use a time machine they have built to meet some of God's heroes from the Old Testament. Among those they meet are Samuel, Esther and Jonah. During each episode they learn something new about
God, which they can then apply to their own lives. Can be used with associated activities to create a family service or holiday club. (Published by Bible Reading Fellowship as part of Launchpad book in January 2004)
